Seminar Topic: “Liberalisation of Legal Practice in Asia and Implications for Foreign Law
Firms in China”

As a result of efforts under the General Agreement on Trade in Services
(GATS) and the globalisation of services generally, many countries around
the world have made it easier for foreign lawyers and foreign law firms to
access their legal services market. This is also true in the Asia Pacific
Region, where significant reforms have been introduced by countries such as
Japan and Singapore in recent years. What impact will this have on China
and what lessons might China learn from the experience of other countries in
the region?
