Professor Paul Kofman, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics is delighted to invite alumni in Malaysia and their guests to join us at the 2012 Faculty of Business and Economics Annual Dean's Dinner in Malaysia on 21 June at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC).

About the Dean:


Professor Paul Kofman was born in the Netherlands and completed a Masters&#8217 degree in Economics at Erasmus University, Rotterdam in 1987, and a PhD in Economics in 1991 at the same institution.

He commenced his career as a lecturer in Finance at Erasmus University in 1991, before migrating to Australia in 1994, where he was employed as a Lecturer in Econometrics at Monash University. After being promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1997, he spent two years at the University of New South Wales as an Associate Professor of Finance, before taking up the post as Professor of Finance and Economics at the University of Technology, Sydney in 1999. In 2001, he became Professor of Finance at The University of Melbourne in 2001 and was Head of Department from 2006 until 2010. He was appointed as Deputy Dean (Faculty) in 2010. He was invited as a guest lecturer in the actuarial PhD program at the prestigious Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 1995, and was a visiting Professor of Finance at the Central European University, in Budapest from 2001 to 2003.

Professor Kofman's main research interest is in quantitative finance, but he has also published papers in international trade, econometrics, and actuarial journals. His publications appear in leading journals, including the Financial Analysts Journal, the Journal of Applied Econometrics, the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of International Economics, and the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics. He has received numerous research grants including three ARC discovery grants, and two ARC linkage (industry) grants. From 2005 until 2010, he was Program Director of the ARC-funded Financial Integrity Research Network. In recognition of his research achievements, he was awarded two research fellowships, one at Erasmus University Rotterdam at the Tinbergen Graduate School, the other at the Limburg Institute of Financial Economics. He has been a long-term supporter of the Chicago Board of Trade derivatives research symposia and is proud to be on its editorial board. He is also an associate editor of the International Journal of Managerial Finance and the Review of Futures Markets.

Professor Kofman has undertaken consultancy work for the European Options Exchange, the New York Board of Trade, the Central European University, a number of Dutch investment banks, the Dutch Centre for Actuarial Statistics, the RACV, and the AOFM.
