Years of research into both the Malaysian and Australia construction sectors

has resulted in an innate understanding of how the construction industries in

these two countries operate. The discussion will be centred on the structure of

production in the construction industry, employment, occupational health and

safety, regulation, productivity and industrial relations. The presentation will also focus on a review of the performance of the construction industry six years into the implementation of the Construction Industry Master Plan 2006-2015.

Dr. Toong Khuan Chan

Toong Khuan Chan is Assistant Dean (International) and Senior Lecturer in Construction Management and Technology, at the Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning, University of Melbourne. His research interests are in the areas of construction economics and technology, and he has published extensively in major engineering and construction journals

and conference proceedings.
