Spreadable: The Science of Viral Marketing

In this fascinating lecture, Dr. Coker reveals the science behind what makes marketing messages spread wide and far.

Considered a world expert in viral marketing, Dr. Coker is among a handful of academics world-wide who have produced evidence to disprove commonly held beliefs that viral content is a function of randomness.

Using a consumer psychology perspective, Dr. Coker's presentation leads the audience through a series of experiments predicting viral content, case study success stories of how local businesses and large international companies developed viral marketing campaigns, and how to attach a brand to viral content.

Dr. Brent Coker is a marketing academic in the department Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Melbourne. He has a PhD in Information Systems (online consumer behaviour), a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration first class honours in information systems, and a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration in Electronic Commerce and Marketing. Dr Coker has been employed at the University of Melbourne as a full time academic since 2008.
