Professor Glyn Davis will remain as Vice-Chancellor until 2018.

The University of Melbourne’s Professor Glyn Davis has been invited by the University Council University to continue as Vice-Chancellor until 31 December 2018.

Chancellor Elizabeth Alexander AM said the reappointment of Professor Davis was exciting news both for the university and the Australian higher education sector.

“The University of Melbourne Council is delighted that Professor Davis has agreed to remain as Vice-Chancellor for a further two years,” she said. “His leadership since 2005 has played a major role in making this university the finest in Australia, and one increasingly seen overseas as one of the finest in the world.”

“Our consistent rise in reputation, as measured by the Times Higher Education, QS and on the Academic Ranking of World Universities, is one impressive measure of that leadership.”

“As a university striving for globally recognised excellence, we understand we have still more to do, to build on our strengths in research, learning and teaching and engagement.”

“This two-year extension of the leadership term of Vice-Chancellor Davis will set us up perfectly to deliver further great results as an institution in future,” concluded Chancellor Alexander

Professor Davis said he was honoured to continue in the role.

“To work with brilliant academic colleagues and students at the University of Melbourne for a further two years is an exciting prospect. It is a privilege it is to be part of this outstanding scholarly community."

“The next three years offer a welcome opportunity to work with students and staff as we complete the decade-long Growing Esteem strategy for research, teaching and engagement at Melbourne, and to engage in the important national debate about the future of higher education in Australia."

Since taking up office at Melbourne in January 2005, Professor Davis has overseen the introduction of the Melbourne Curriculum model, substantial new investment in research staff and facilities, an overhaul of campus administration, and led the Campaign for the University of Melbourne to raise $500m in philanthropic funds for the institution.
